Q: Where do I find my Member ID?
You can find your Member ID on the Member Card you received in the mail after completing your first Lifesaving Society course. If you have a blue LSS certification card from prior to 2022, you can find your Member ID on the bottom right corner. If you cannot find your Member ID, please contact us.
Q: What is the Lifesaving Society Member Card?
This card is sent in the mail to new Lifesaving Society members to provide them with their Lifesaving Society Member ID. If you were a member of the Lifesaving Society prior to January 2022, your Member ID will be on your blue LSS certification card(s). If you are a new member and have not yet received your Member Card, please contact us.
Q: How do I find my certifications/awards?
Go to the Find a Certification page, enter your Lifesaving Society Member ID, and click ‘View Record’ to review your transcript and certifications.
Q: How long is my certification valid?
Check your certifications on Find a Certification by entering your Member ID and clicking 'View Record.' To see your certification currency or expiry date, click on 'View Full Card'.
Q: I have not received my certification card in the mail.
As of January 2022, the Lifesaving Society will no longer mail out physical certification cards. All awards can be reviewed online on Find a Certification.
Q: I do not see my certification on my transcript.
It can take up to one month from the end date of your course for your certification to be visible on Find a Certification. If it has been 6 weeks since your course ended and your certification is still not visible, please contact us and we would be happy to assist you.
Q: I am moving. How do I transfer my certifications?
If you are moving out of Alberta, contact our branch and let us know which province you would like your certifications to be transferred to. If you are moving to Alberta, contact the Lifesaving Society branch where your awards are currently held and let them know you would like to transfer your certifications to Alberta. It takes us a few days to process, then we will contact you with your new Alberta Member ID.
Q: Is my Aquatic Emergency Care equivalent to a workplace Intermediate First Aid?
Aquatic Emergency Care with certification date before October 25, 2022 completed in Alberta and NWT had approval as a workplace Intermediate First Aid at the time taken. This means that it is recognized by the Government of Alberta, Government of NWT, and the Lifesaving Society as a workplace approved Intermediate first aid for the duration of its currency period. If you took AEC on or after October 25, 2022, it is not considered a a workplace approved Intermediate First Aid.
Q: Can I take an Intermediate First Aid recertification if I hold an Aquatic Emergency Care award?
If you have an Aquatic Emergency Care Award on your profile with a date prior to October 25, 2022, your certification is:
- Eligible for use as a workplace first aid under OHS Legislation
- Recognized as current for 2 years
- Eligible to recertify for 3 years
- Workplace Intermediate First Aid has a maximum allowable currency of 3 years, so we were able to give this grace period of 1 year
- Doing a Lifesaving Society recertification course will reduce barriers as this was our program
