Safety Management Training

To support the aquatic recreation industry, the Society offers a suite of programs and services to help aquatic facility owners and operators maintain and improve safe aquatic environments. These programs, services, and certifications are recognized and transferable across Canada.

Supervision, Evaluation and Enhancement (SEE) Auditor

SEE Auditor is designed to prepare National Lifeguard Instructors to conduct SEE Audits on lifeguard and instructional teams at supervised swimming pools and waterfronts. Candidates learn the roles and responsibilities of SEE Auditors and facilities, the value of SEE Audits, the SEE Audit process, scanning and safety supervision behaviours to look for while conducting SEE Audits and scanning inhibitors/enhancers. SEE Auditors gain the skills to provide tools and suggestions to supervisors/managers to support ongoing development of lifeguard and instructional teams.

Prerequisite(s) Current National Lifeguard Instructor certification
Certification Currency Two (2) years from the date of certification
Recertification Complete and submit the Distance Recertification Form

 

Aquatic Safety Inspector

Aquatic Safety Inspector is designed for individuals interested in conducting Aquatic Safety Inspections. Participants will gain an understanding of the regulations, protocols, and guidelines that apply to the operation of aquatic facilities. Participants apply knowledge learned in the class through hands-on inspections using Lifesaving Society Inspection checklists.

Certification Currency Two (2) years from the date of certification
Recertification Complete and submit the Distance Recertification Form

 

Aquatic Safety Auditor

Aquatic Safety Auditor is designed to prepare experienced aquatics professionals to be involved in formal Facility Audits conducted by the Lifesaving Society. Participants will learn how to conduct Specific Issue (Topical) Safety Audits and Comprehensive Safety Audits of aquatic operations using a checklist, literature review, and interview processes designed by the Lifesaving Society expressly for this purpose.

Certification Currency Two (2) years from the date of certification
Recertification Complete and submit the Distance Recertification Form

 

Aquatic Supervisor Training (AST)

Aquatic Supervisor Training (AST) is designed to help aquatic supervisors support facility management, National Lifeguards, and instructors/coaches in their facilities. Course content includes topics such as training, supervision, safe facility operation, and risk management.

Prerequisite(s) Current National Lifeguard certification and a Lifesaving Instructor certification (need not be current) or higher.
Certification Currency Two (2) years from the date of certification
Recertification Complete and submit the Distance Recertification Form

 

Aquatic Management Training (AMT)

Aquatic Management Training (AMT) is recommended for those with limited aquatic background and is an excellent refresher for experienced aquatic leaders. The participants gain the skills, knowledge, and applied practical experience in the areas of risk management, legislation, and operating practices that dictate the current operating standards of aquatic facilities in Alberta and Northwest Territories.
