More 2025 Courses Available for Registration

As a reminder to our Instructors and Trainers, there's still time to register for some of our upcoming 2025 courses, including in-person and online Trainer Original/Trainer Recertification!

We previously announced our 2025 courses back in November, but since then we've added some additional in-person options. Limited spots are available, so if you have any Trainer or Instructor awards that will need recertification next year, there's no better time to secure yourself a spot!

Trainer Original

 

Designed for Trainers of any program stream, the Lifesaving Society Trainer Course prepares Trainers to apply level 4 leadership competencies to support Instructors learning to teach and evaluate Lifesaving Society leadership programs.

To be eligible for a Trainer Original course, Trainers must have:

  • An application to the Lifesaving Society
  • Demonstrated level 3 leadership competencies
  • At least 2 years teaching experience
  • A current Lifesaving Instructor certification (any program, such as Swim Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor, etc.)

Trainer Recertification

To be eligible for recertification, Trainers must have completed all mandatory updates (as required) and hold applicable current Instructor certification(s). In this course, Trainers can recertify the following certifications:

  • Trainer (any stream)
  • Lifesaving Instructor
  • Swim Instructor
  • National Lifeguard Instructor

The online Trainer Recertification course consists of online course work and a Teams video conference. Active participation in both the online course work and the live video conference is required for recertification.

Safety, Evaluation, and Enhancement (SEE) Auditor

This course is designed to prepare National Lifeguard Instructors to conduct SEE Audits on lifeguard and instructional teams at supervised swimming pools and waterfronts. Participants learn the roles and responsibilities of SEE Auditors and facilities, the value of SEE Audits, the SEE Audit process, and more.

SEE Auditors gain the skills to provide tools and suggestions to supervisors/managers so that they can support the ongoing development of their lifeguard and instructor teams.

Aquatic Management Training (AMT)

This course is recommended for those with a limited aquatics background, but can also be an excellent refresher for experienced aquatic leaders. 

Participants will gain skills, knowledge, and practical experience in risk management, legislation, and practices that that inform the standards of operating an aquatic facility in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. 

You'll learn the identification of hazards, non-conforming aspects of aquatic facility operations, as well as the responsibilities of aquatic managers, facility design, program design and operation, safe water management, aquatic emergencies, and incident management.
