Call for Volunteers: Safety Standards Commissioner

The Lifesaving Society Canada is currently seeking a volunteer to lead the Safety Standards activity centre and projects as assigned by the Board of Directors. Reporting to the Board of Directors (or designate), the Safety Standards Commissioner will perform duties as outlined in the attached Terms of Reference and Job Description. The Lifesaving Society Canada’s Safety Standards Commission contributes to the mission of the Society by setting evidence-based standards and best practices to prevent drowning and water-related injuries; and to optimize safety in, on and around aquatic environments. At this time, the Safety Standards Commission has three areas of focus to help achieve this mandate:

  • Develop five (5) research-based standards annually based on industry and\or stakeholder needs.
  • Revise five (5) existing standards annually based on a five-year review from the BOD date of approval.
  • Work with the Branches to leverage Canada’s aquatic safety standards positioning to the benefit of the Society and its programs, activities and services.
