First Aid Mandatory Update - Timeline

In May 2024, the Lifesaving Society Alberta and Northwest Territories Branch will be launching our new First Aid materials as well as a mandatory update for all Lifesaving First Aid Instructors and Trainers. For more information on the details of the update, please see our November 2 communique.

Below, we've summarized our timeline for the Mandatory Update as well as a price list of the new materials.

1. First Aid Mandatory Update for Instructors and Trainers is Launched on Online Academy

Date: May 27, 2024

Who's Affected: First Aid Instructors, First Aid Trainers

2. Revised First Aid Resources are Launched

Date: May 27, 2024

Who's Affected: Affiliates, First Aid Instructors, First Aid Trainers

3. Previous First Aid Leadership Resources to be Retired

Date: May 27, 2024

Who's Affected: Affiliates, First Aid Trainers

4. First Aid Instructor Courses to be Delivered Using the New Resources by Updated First Aid Trainers

Date: May 27, 2024

  • First Aid Instructors certified before May 27, 2024 are required to complete the mandatory update by August 31, 2024.

5. Previous First Aid Candidate Resources to be Retired

Date: September 1, 2024

Who's Affected: Affiliates, First Aid Instructors

6. First Aid Training Programs to be Delivered Using the New Resources by Updated First Aid Instructors

Date: September 1, 2024 (or sooner)

Additional Resource Implementation Info

  • Facilities may still conduct Lifesaving Basic and Intermediate First Aid courses using the existing resources until August 31, 2024.
  • Once Instructors and Trainers have completed the Mandatory Update, they are required to now teach Lifesaving Basic and Intermediate First Aid courses using the new resources, including updated test sheets.
  • Facilities, Trainers, and Instructors should plan their mandatory update schedule according to their remaining inventory of current First Aid materials.
    • You can also exchange your current First Aid resources with updated ones between May 27 - August 31, 2024. Contact us for more information!
      • Please know that the exchange of old materials will no longer be available after September 1, 2024.
  • It's important to know that no changes are being made to the Leadership Reference Manual or Leadership Competencies Manual at this time, so please continue to utilize these resources.

Cost of Updates (GST Not Included)

Online Mandatory Update:

  • On or before August 31, 2024: $20 (includes printed First Aid Manual and Workplace First Aid Award Guide)
  • On or after September 1, 2024: $20 + cost of materials (available for purchase through the order form within the Mandatory Update)

Required Materials (below):

  • Instructors and Trainers only require 1 copy of each resource.
  • Printed copies of resources available digitally in the vault may be purchased separately.
  • The prices below are applicable to printed resources on or after September 1, 2024.

Additional Notes

Note that Mandatory Updates have no impact on the currency of existing Lifesaving Society Workplace First Aid training. Candidates trained prior to August 31, 2024 may require some additional support on program changes when they next recertify.
